Renovating your home can be an expensive activity, and one that you want to get absolutely right first time around. Many people aim to achieve a sleek and modern look, but sometimes it’s difficult to get this just right. When it comes to the bathroom, it can be difficult to create a stunning looking room without having to spend serious amounts of money – there are a few simple tips, though, that should give you the room you desire without breaking the bank.

First of all it’s important to choose an overall colour scheme. Bathrooms are, above all else, functional spaces and it’s a good idea to keep the décor plain and simple. Neutral colours are best, and if your bathroom is a little on the small side then it’s a good idea to keep things light and bright as this will help create a feeling of extra space. An off white or light grey tile will give a good background setting – don’t worry if it seems a little dull, as you’ll be creating contrast with some of the other fixtures and fittings. Deciding on the lighting layout is next on the list – getting the right balance between ceiling lights and bathroom vanity light fixtures is key as it’s important to choose lights that will give a bright, but not overpowering, natural looking spread of light.

If you’re installing fitted units, which are a great idea to maximise the use of space, you can either choose a bright bold colour or keep in tune with the minimalist look and stick with white. Sinks, baths and the toilet should be white – any other colour might look good now, but will only date the look of the room years down the line. Worktops can provide a contrast, but it’s a good idea to try and keep in tone with the rest of the room – if you have chosen light grey tiles, then a dark grey worktop will look great. Modern looking taps, faucets, and showers will really help make the room sparkle and don’t need to cost a fortune.

Finally, to finish the room off, you’ll need to fit a decent sized mirror. Illuminated bathroom mirrors are perfect for adding a touch of glamour to a room, as they create both a focal point and a wow factor. They’re great for any time you need get a good look at what you’re doing – shaving and applying make-up will be so easy you’ll wonder how you ever managed before.

So if you’ve followed these simple few steps you should have a great looking new room, and still have plenty of money left in your budget to splash out elsewhere. If only renovating all the rooms in your home were as straight-forward and easy as creating your stunning bathroom.

While many may laugh at it, proper feng shui can be what sells (or doesn’t sell) a house. To have the best good luck for your family, proper adherence to feng shui is thought to optimize the energy in your home, and to help with the attraction of joy, contentment, and a prosperous life.

Even if you are not planning to move at this time, keeping buyer preferences in mind is a good idea if you are designing, building, or remodeling a home. Should you need it, you want your home to appeal to the maximum number of buyers. You wouldn’t want any of them to have a negative reaction to the property.

Lucky principles from the Far East are thought to impact a person’s general happiness, health status, and financial situation. All of us most certainly desire to have as much good luck as possible.

Placement of the bathroom on the blueprint is important. Once you have a location for the kitchen, be careful not to put the bathroom next to it. The bathroom should not be placed on the second story above the from entry either.

From the north comes our wealth, so it would be less than optimal (that is, it would be bad) to place elimination facilities there.

Since the direction of northeast is considered beneficial for vital energies, a person’s last choice for something negative like a bathroom would be in the northeast.

The southwest direction as well is of importance. Having a restroom here could flush away financial well being. The same is true of the southeast.

Bathrooms are pesky for feng shui because it really is difficult to find auspicious placement. Since sunshine and the sun first come from the east as the sun rises, this energy should not be polluted with a latrine.

Since an extraordinarily important area is the middle of the property, by all means avoid having a central location for the loo. This could result in negative energy being emitted throughout the house from there.

The optimal place for the bathroom water closet area would be in the northwest, since negative energy will move out of the home quickly from there. If it cannot be the northwest, then think about a western or southern placement for voiding and sanitary facilities.

If the toilet can be in one room and the rest of the bathroom in another this would be optimal. If not, consider how you might barricade off the toilet so that it the view and energy of it does not impact the entire room.

Make sure your faucets are tight and turn off properly. Since water is a precious natural resource, it is not surprising to know that a dripping faucet could symbolize our wealth simply draining away.

Cleanliness is, of course, next to godliness, so this is an important part of the house to keep clean.

Select light and bright colors for paint for this room.

The Chinese principles of feng shui are now respected throughout the world. Although they may be new to many of us, there are many who abide by the belief that proper feng shui in an environment can help to create well being and harmony. It is wise to understand and be aware of such fascinating information.

A quadrant shower enclosure is the perfect solution for a bathroom suffering from limited space issues. Alternatively, it is also the ideal choice for enlarging the showering area within the room. It has a more modern appearance than the traditional rectangular enclosure units installed in older bathrooms. This item keeps the faucet from spraying water all over the bathroom and no curtain or other decoration is needed to cover it.

These products come in different styles and finishes, but all are very durable and the units take up minimal space in the bathroom. The unit has a curved front and the edges butt up against the wall, making the area like a corner cabinet within the room. Some of these units are shaped to maximize the showering area, allowing for mobility within the unit that is not possible with a traditional enclosure.

Neo Glass Shower Enclosure

The 900 quadrant shower enclosure is the middle size, measuring 900 mm. There are also an 800 and a 1000 mm version, so homeowners have a choice of sizes to meet different space requirements. There are quadrant shower enclosures designed for the elderly and these contain a walk-in feature, rather than a door. This enables those with mobility problems to use the shower without risk of injury.

The doors on most styles are usually made from glass that is clear or contains frosting or patterns. Those with themed bathrooms may be able to find a door with a matching pattern, such as a seaside scene. The framing on the doors is usually chrome, aluminum, or steel, because these are rust-proof and can be easily cleaned.

The offset quadrant shower enclosure is different from the standard models because it is designed to use more space within the bathroom. It provides the homeowner with a larger space within which to shower. These models range up to 1200 mm in length and 900 mm in width, providing a roomy showering experience. They come in either one or two door styles with right or left hand options. The doors usually slide on tracks, preventing water from dripping when the user opens the door. This product comes in many of the same glass and frame color and pattern options as the traditional quadrant model.

Key items to consider prior to purchasing one of these products are the available space within the room, the space inside the shower area, and the ease with which the doors can be closed. Consumers should search online and go to showrooms in order to see and walk in the available enclosures. There should be enough room inside to comfortably change position as one may do when shampooing, washing, and shaving.

A quadrant shower enclosure can be used whether the homeowner wants to maximize the open space within the bathroom or increase the showering area. The glass doors are available in clear, frosted, or patterned styles and there are several frame colors available. The unit is easy to clean, requires little maintenance, and will give the bathroom a unique appearance.

Installing a mirror tile is a great way to visually enlarge and enhance a room or any small space. The tile reflects an image, so it is perfect for use in the bathroom or as a focal wall in the dining or living rooms of the home. Some of these products are self adhesive so they can be installed in seconds in order to give the area a new look.

Adhesive mirror tiles usually come in 4×4 inch sizes and these will adhere to any flat surface. They can be used in bathrooms, on the backs of doors, in a school locker, and anywhere else that individuals want to see themselves. The surface can be wiped clean with water and the product will last until it is physically removed. Using this item is much less bulky than carting around the physical alternative, which can easily break.

Mosaic mirror tile creates the look of a reflecting pool and it comes in colors such as clear and black. The black style contains a top that is coated with a reflective semi-translucent finish. The finish has a blue-grey tone to it, providing the product with three distinct looks depending on the viewer’s vantage point and lighting conditions. These are often available in round, square, or rectangular shapes and are suitable for placement on the walls of the home. Since they are frost- proof and impervious, they can be used outdoors as well.

Glass mirror tiles come in sheets, rows, or individual squares, so they are ideal for a variety of purposes. The little squares can be used in craft projects such as mosaics or picture frames. The rows make a great accent border on a wall within a room that gets a lot of light. These are usually available in widths ranging from one-half inch to two inches. The mirrored tiles included in the sheets come in the same measurements and the sheets are usually one-eight inch thick.

Sheets come in colors such as copper, black, gold, purple, dark grey, and the standard silver tone. There are design effects available, like a shattered appearance of fossilized look. The raindrop pattern looks like actual droplets of rain are sitting on the surface of the mirror. This will provide any room with a unique appearance that may cause an observer to look twice.

Different colors and designs can be combined, such as using silver mirrored tiles in the center and blue or black smaller squares around the perimeter as a border. Colors can be randomly alternated, giving the area a one-of-a-kind appearance. These materials can be used when crafting to cover a pot for a plant, make decorative cubes to sit on the counter, or serve as the surface of an unfinished wood table.

The uses for mirror tile are not limited to the walls of the bathroom. These items can be incorporated into a focal wall, border, freestanding mirror, or craft projects. The various sizes, colors, and designs sold online and in stores make mirrored tiles suitable for many different applications.

When installing tile, some type of border is usually applied around the edges of the material in order to provide a finished appearance. Tile trim is made from a variety of substances and each type will give the area a different look. No matter what kind is selected, the tile will have additional protection and added flair.

Metal tile trim made from stainless steel can be used to provide walls and counters with a decorative and protective edge. Some kinds are able to withstand heavy foot traffic and these can be used in flooring projects. They make an excellent transition ramp adjoining floor coverings that are different heights. Some of these are also used as stair noses and edging rails within interior staircases.

Aluminum tile trim eliminates the need for mitering and covers the sharp edges of the tile located on walls and floors. The round edge style can be used in wall or flooring projects and sometimes comes in both gold and silver color options. Square edging is often used as vertical edge border, horizontal floor border, or as a feature strip. A straight edge product has an “L” shape and can be used as a finish for fireplaces and walls.

Ceramic tile trim has many more styles and it can even be custom matched to the color and design of the tile with which it will be used. The customization process involves sending a sample of the design to the company, who then starts with a blank bisque colored product. Glazes are applied to this item, which results in a matching piece of trim, just as if the two items were manufactured together. This is a great way for homeowners to find the perfect product to match their hard-to-find designs.

The ceramic substance is used in products designed as wall and backsplash borders, decorative wall focal points or trims, and even in the walls of a pool. The product is glazed and is impervious to water so it can be used to decorate both the inside and the outside of the home. It comes in just about every color, style, size and design imaginable, so its uses are limited only by the imagination.

One of the most creative projects that uses ceramic trim is a water feature located either inside or outside of the home. The waterfall or fountain can be covered in tile and the trim can be used to provide accent to the center or the edges. The room in which the feature is located will take on a timeless, refined appearance. In addition, the water will provide soothing sounds and a calming visual for all who sit in the room.

Tile trim is made from both metal and ceramic materials and can be used in flooring and wall projects within the home. The metal variety is often used in kitchen backsplashes and the floor, while the ceramic type is most often found in walls, fireplaces, and borders. Whatever the purpose, these products are easy to install and very durable.

The hexagon tile is a reminder of days gone by because it was frequently used in turn of the century homes. A hexagon floor tile provides an elegant design and a clean surface to the bathroom and kitchen floors of older homes. These products are still sold in stores, allowing antique homes to get a refresh or providing a modern home with a classic look.

These hexagon tiles were unglazed when they were initially installed in period homes. Since they were not glazed, they had a matte appearance that made them look worn and they tended to get nicks and scratches. They also had the tendency to trap dirt and were not very easy to clean, frequently requiring the individual to get down on hands and knees to give the surface a scrubbing. Water frequently pooled on the floor after a shower or bath and it would seep into the tile.

Modern hexagon ceramic tile is glazed, which makes it much more durable and able to resist scratching. It is impervious to water, while at the same time providing resistance to slipping when walking in wet areas. This glazed surface is much easier to clean than the traditional variety, enabling it to look brand new in a matter of minutes.

White hexagon tile can be interspersed with colors to make a pattern. It can also be used to make a decorative border around the perimeter of the room. Manufacturers sell pre-formed pieces especially for this purpose. There are literally thousands of pattern and color combinations from which the homeowner can select. The color of grout selected will affect the look of the final product, so it is an important consideration. When a contrasting color of grout is used, the hex pattern will stand out more.

Hexagonal tiles come on sheets that can be purchased in a store or ordered online for immediate shipping. Some online companies sell sample cards at a small fee to customers who want to see what the actual product looks like. These companies may also provide design tips for do it yourselfers who plan to install the products themselves. Individuals working with an installer should get advice from the professional regarding which products are best suited for the project as well as how to lay out the designs.

Kitchens, bathrooms, pools, foyers, and fireplaces are just a few of the places that these materials can be used. They also make great kitchen counter and backsplash surfaces because they can withstand heat and are easy to clean. If unglazed products are purchased, a penetrating sealer should be applied prior to grouting. This will provide additional protection and make the grout clean-up process easier.

Using hexagon tile within the home will give the area a clean and refined appearance. This material is not difficult to install, is very easy to clean, and requires no maintenance. Whether the home is new or old, it can be enhanced by the right colors and patterns of hexagonal tiles used on the floor, countertop, or backsplash.

White is a very clean and sterile color, and it makes a statement without really trying. Incorporated with other colors, this color creates an entirely new feeling within a room. Homeowners can try several different ideas, using white tiles by themselves or mixing them with other colors and textured materials such as river rock tile. The result is sure to be stunning, no matter what room in the home is redesigned.

Black and white conveys the impression of the classic bathroom or kitchen backsplash. The character of an older home comes through when it has black and white floor tiles in the bathroom. The homeowner can install a sink with dual faucets to complete the look, then run some white wall titles halfway up the length, painting the upper half of each wall. The newly designed room will take people back to the 1940s when they step into it.

Some people prefer to keep the room one color and use rugs, drapes, and wall accents to draw in the eye. In this case, white floor tiles and corresponding color walls present a nice contrast to brightly colored rugs, window treatments, and paintings. Fresh flowers can be added to the room to provide an additional designer touch. A mosaic tile provides a new twist on the classic white ceramic tile, giving the wall or floor a multidimensional appearance.

White marble tiles often have streaks of color running through them, giving them a more modern appearance. These streaks may be random or they may form intricate patterns that are very eye-catching. The marble has a polished finish, giving it a refined appearance and making it suitable for use in the foyer or any room within the home.

There are a wide variety of these products available online and in stores. This is one of the standard colors, so it will not be difficult to find an assortment of options, including different shapes -such as hexagon tile, and also a variety of patterns. Some contain patterns like the Kohler Fables & Flowers product that takes its inspiration from botanical drawings from the 17th century. Coordinating products can be found in order to carry the theme throughout the room.

Something an individual may not immediately consider is using a single white tile as a decorative insert in a wall or floor that contains only colored tiles. This gives a splash of flair to an otherwise plain area, creating a focal point within the room. Using tile on the kitchen countertop is another great idea, and a countertop made from tile is very easy to clean. There are so many other ideas, an individual just needs to use a little creativity and do some online searching in order to find the perfect ones.

White tiles can be used in the bathroom floor or walls and within the kitchen as a backsplash, but that is just the beginning. Using these as an accent piece or to cover the kitchen counter are just a few of the many creative ideas that a homeowner can implement. The design will provide the room with a clean appearance for years to come.

Homeowners often want a new bathroom after they have lived in the residence for a while. They want to keep this room updated to look stylish, provide updated functionality, and increase the market value of the home. Unfortunately, this room is usually one of the most expensive to redecorate. However, with some research and handy skills, a lot of money can be saved.

Ideas for new bathrooms can be found by looking at home magazines, watching home improvement shows, and searching online. There are new bathroom designs provided by each of these sources, including actual floor plans. An individual can take these ideas and design the perfect room to fit the available footprint. Consulting with the design department in a home improvement store will give the homeowner some additional ideas.

The floor and walls are two of the first things that will need to be overhauled and there are a lot of options. The homeowner can choose from wood, tile, or linoleum for the flooring. Carpet is not recommended because it will absorb water and can cause mold or mildew to grow underneath it. The walls can be painted, tiled, or wallpapered as long as water-resistant paint and paper are used. Special paint intended for use in the bathroom can be found in most stores. The ingredients inhibit the growth of fungus and prevent water retention.

After the walls and floor are taken care of, the homeowner should focus on the new bathroom plumbing. A toilet and sink will need to be purchased and consumers can easily find matching designs. The sink can be either a pedestal or countertop variety with a cabinet underneath. If the closet is large, the pedestal may be the best option because it takes up less space.

The shower will either need to be entirely removed or instead resurfaced. If the individual is not comfortable doing this, a professional can be called, even if only resurfacing needs to be done. Re-tiling the shower is a great way to give it a new look and tiles can be selected to coordinate with the new colors of the walls and floor.

Once all of this is completed, the homeowner can select light fixtures, a mirror, and window treatments for the room. Towels and throw rugs in coordinating colors will add the final touches. If the room has a lot of extra space, a vanity table and chair can be purchased for the lady of the house. This will provide a place for her to do her hair and makeup while seated.

The cost of a new bathroom does not have to be outrageous because money can be saved by shopping around. New bathroom ideas can be found in magazines, on TV, through a Web search, or in a home improvement store. The homeowner should view the floor, walls, plumbing, and decorations as separate mini projects, focusing on one at a time. The redecoration will not seem as overwhelming and will move along on schedule, with everyone in the family pitching in as necessary.
