Continue laying your tiles, working away from the centerline until you get as far as you want for the one side. Now repeat this on the other side going in the opposite direction, ensuring each tile is placed in the exact same manner. If you are trying to create a pattern, you may want to sketch the pattern out on paper first, to show exactly where each tile must go. After laying the tiles you must grout over them using a rubber float and mallet. Make sure you get grout in between each and every tile. This is what holds the tiles together and ensures they do not slide around. Use more than enough grout because after you wipe the excess off. You can use spacers in between the tiles to ensure there is adequate room for grout afterwards. This is the best way, especially for a novice who has not laid tiles before. Place the spacers between the tiles when laying them and remove before grouting. You should be left with spaces in between for the grout. Remove the excess grout with a wet rag. For the first wipe you should only wait about five minutes and for the final wipe, 24 hours. Give the grout a day or two to cure completely and you can now feel free to stain or pain the backsplash. Now you have finished the kitchen backsplash and finished one of the most important design elements to any kitchen.
